New York Transco develops innovative, cost-effective electric transmission solutions that help meet the growing demand for electricity, reduce energy prices and bolster system reliability in a minimally impactful and collaborative manner. We further pride ourselves on pursuing solutions that can achieve identified needs and be permitted and built on-time and on-budget. Here’s an overview of our energized projects.
Dover Station Project – Dutchess County, NY
New York Transco designed and constructed this new substation in the town of Dover.

The station improves the capacity, reliability and resiliency of the state’s electric grid and the flow of electricity to homes and businesses in the Hudson Valley and beyond. In addition to performing a substation’s typical function of connecting transmission lines and adjusting voltage, Dover Station features specialized equipment called phase angle regulators (PARS) that allow the New York Independent System Operator to remotely control and direct the flow of electricity on the connected high voltage lines based on real-time system needs. Dover Station was constructed on a long-vacant former industrial property, returning the site to productive use, and retaining and adding to the vegetative buffer area between the station and nearby properties and environmental areas. The station went into service in December 2025.
New York Energy Solution Project – Rensselaer, Columbia & Dutchess Counties, NY
New York Transco’s New York Energy Solution Project (NYES) modernized 55-miles of existing electric transmission structure through 11 towns in Rensselaer, Columbia and Dutchess counties.

The project replaced 1930s-era transmission structures with new storm-resilient monopoles – more than 200 fewer – that hold a new 345kV and a 115kV transmission line. These new lines and several new and upgraded substations – built entirely on existing utility-owned lands – are helping relieve historic transmission congestion and provide the carrying capacity needed to deliver increasing amounts of energy from northern New York generating sources to homes and businesses in the Hudson Valley and beyond. The project was energized in the summer of 2023, six months ahead of schedule.
New York Transco modernized and enhanced this 12-mile electric transmission line between the Sugarloaf Substation in the town of Chester and the Rock Tavern Substation in the town of New Windsor.
Rock Tavern to Sugarloaf Project – Orange County, NY

We replaced a nearly 100-year-old 115kV line on lattice structures with a new 115kV line on monopole structures and upgraded both substations. The project adds needed capacity to the system to advance the efficient flow of energy to customers. All work was performed in existing utility-owned property or rights-of-ways. The project was energized in summer 2023, six months ahead of schedule.
Fraser to Coopers Corners Project – Delaware, Rockland & Sullivan Counties, NY
The Fraser to Coopers Corners Project increases transmission capability into Southeastern New York.

The project features 21 miles of re-conductored 345 kV transmission line and a 240 MVAR series capacitor bank added between NYSEG’s 345 kV Fraser substation near Delhi, NY, and the Coopers Corners Substation near Monticello, NY. The project also includes 12 new structures and refurbishment of 20 existing structures. The project was developed by NYSEG, transferred to New York Transco’s ownership in May 2016, and placed in service in June of that year.
Ramapo to Rock Tavern Project – Orange County, NY
This New York Transco project helped increase transmission capability into Southeastern New York.

The Ramapo-Rock Tavern project installed a second 345 kV transmission line on existing double circuit structures between a new 345/138 kV Substation at Sugarloaf and Central Hudson’s Rock Tavern 345 kV substation.. The project also allowed an existing 15-mile feeder line between the Ramapo and Sugarloaf stations that had been operating at 138 kV to operate at 345 kV, adding a total of 27 miles of new 345 kV transmission lines between Con Edison’s Ramapo substation and the Rock Tavern substations. This project was developed by Con Edison and ownership was transferred to New York Transco in May 2016.
Staten Island Unbottling Project – Richmond County, NY, and Union County, NJ
The Staten Island Unbottling (SIU) project helped enhance the reliability of energy delivery in the region.

The project split an existing 2.3-mile 345 kV transmission feeder line between Goethals Substation in Staten Island, NY, and the Linden Cogeneration substation in Linden, NJ, into two completely separate feeders. The project increases the reliability at Goethals Substation in the event a feeder line goes down. In addition, due to the feeder separation, up to 480 MW of electricity may be supplied from the New Jersey generating station to Staten Island in a post-contingency configuration. The project was developed by Con Ed and transferred to New York Transco’s ownership in May 2016. The independent feeder lines were put into service in the Spring of 2016 and final relay upgrades were completed that Fall.
